Property code: 88510

Located in a quiet valley high in the Black Mountains, this traditional barn conversion makes an ideal base for couples wanting to enjoy the outdoors and explore the Brecon Beacons.

The Olchon Valley is situated on the Herefordshire/Welsh border within the Black Mountains on the eastern edge of the Brecon Beacons National Park. It’s an area of special scientific interest, with a profusion of birds, plants, and animals, some rare, along with no light pollution – it is a great place for stargazing. Here, you can leave the car behind and head into the Black Mountains, climb onto the Hatterrall Ridge to join the Offa’s Dyke Path where you can walk out to Hay Bluff and Twmpa, or enjoy the ruins of Llanthony Priory. There is also canoeing, pony trekking, and climbing available within the park. For a more cultured day out, you can visit one of the many market towns including Hay-on-Wye (12.5 miles), Abergavenny (13 miles), and Crickhowell (21 miles).

Set deep in a valley across acres of farmland, here you can step back in time and relax within the grounds of a working livestock farm. This traditional barn situated within the heart of the farmyard offers spacious accommodation with many original features. Step inside and leave your boots within the utility area, you will find a Belfast sink which is great for rinsing muddy boots along with a WC. From here you will step into the lounge/dining area, a charming space with low ceilings, exposed beams, and stone walls. There is a deep windowsill perfect for a lazy afternoon with a good book, comfortable seating, a wood-burning stove, and a TV. For dining a generous table that will easily seat 4 guests. There is a well-equipped kitchen with an electric oven and hob, microwave, and fridge with an ice compartment. From the lounge, there are a couple of steps up to a spacious bedroom with a king-size bed. There is an en-suite shower room with a shower and WC.

Outside guests can make the most of the enclosed gardens to the front and rear of the barn. There is space for dining with a table and chairs, along with a dedicated area to cook on the BBQ. There is off-road parking for two cars and storage for bikes.

We had such a wonderfully peaceful, relaxing break in the barn at Cwm Steps. It's a lovely spacious holiday home, with comfortable sofas and everything you need in the kitchen. The bathroom is light and modern, spotlessly clean and the bed was comfy too. The location is quiet, rural, and beautiful, lots of good walks from the door and the shop in LRead moreongtown (about 3 miles) has a great range of food etc. We loved meeting the goats, sheep, cows and dogs, and were made very welcome on the farm Hide

We loved our stay in the barn cottage from Sara and Richard. The cottage has lots of room and the kitchen is fully equipped. The animals living on the farm are so free and natural. Our dog made some new dogfriends.

We had a wonderful stay at the cottage. The barn has been turned into an amazing very spacious place to stay - all wood, slate and stone with excellent kitchen and lovely log burner. As a barn conversion, the utilisation of the space has been well considered. But beware of a low beam and a low doorway too! Access is down a long, steep, stoney farm drive. We loved the sense of being remote, the miles of single track roads we drove when we wanted to explore further afield. Great local walks, views and history. A real get away!!
