This pet-friendly couples retreat is set in the delightful village of Bawdsey, on the estuary of the River Deben and in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The area is criss-crossed with miles of rural footpaths and bridleways, and there is walking and cycling opportunities from your front door. Bawdsey Quay is only 2 miles away, from where you can take the foot ferry over to the tiny fishing village of Felixstowe Ferry and then walk or cycle into Felixstowe, a vibrant seaside town with a variety of shops, places to eat and drink and a popular sand and shingle beach. Orford, the tiny village full of foodie delights, is 12.5 miles away, while the pretty seaside town of Aldeburgh, renowned for its food (especially fish and chips) and festivals, is 19 miles.

The charming cottage has maintained many of its original features, including the open fire in the lounge, making it a perfect destination for a cosy winter break. On the upper floor is simply the king-size bedroom, a beautiful space with exposed beams and brickwork, sloping ceilings and an ornamental fireplace.

To the rear of the cottage is a secure garden with a bench seat and table, a gorgeous spot in which to enjoy a warm day or evening, perhaps with a book or while discussing plans for tomorrow’s adventures.

It was a very quaint and very clean cottage and the bed was very comfortable. The garden was a nice size for the dogs. Parking was also good with own space at end of garde. Plenty of crockery, cutlery and cooking utensils. I didn't use the cooker as I took my own ready cooked batch food, but was a bit concerned as to the height of the microwave as Read morehad to stretch up to get the food out and was worried about burning myself if it spilt. Unfortunately the lounge seating was very uncomfortable as the sofa sank at one side, so I had to use the armchair with the pouffe. I was on my own with my two dogs but could only fit one of the dog beds in the lounge, as there wasn't enough room for a second without falling over the dogs or their beds. I felt if there had been 2 of us it would have been a squeeze. Also perhaps just 1 dog would have been easier, but i have 2. There is nowhere to put wet coats when raining and had to dry the dogs in the kitchen area and then had nowhere to hang the wet towels. I only stayed for 3 days, and had to use the spare room as a storage area for mine and the dogs dry food. Bins were a bit confusing as the green bin had garden waste in it and there was no brown bin. Also there were no food bags under the sink. Sorry but it wasn't for me, but I was very impressed by the cleanliness. I did have to drive further afield to find good walks for the dogs. Dunwich Heath and Beach 30 to 40 minutes away was absolutely ideal. Hide

The cottage is very quaint, is easy to find from directions and a lovely place to stay. Cannot comment on washing machine and cooker as did not use but great to have them there. Had to de-ice freezer before use.

Cottage lovely, a few niggles but on the whole good. Admin though not brilliant. We arrived to a sound of beeping from a carbon monoxide monitor, we had no screwdriver to put a new battery in, immediately phoned and explained but no one came. Had to take it outside every night as the noise was disturbing. Also we brought along quite a lot of food, Read moresalads, veg etc . The following morning everything was frozen as the fridge was on high, so the majority of the food was thrown out. Very annoying and costly. Location good Hide

The pictures on the website are very deceiving the cottage is far to small for the amount of furniture that has been placed in each room. Pretty garden however garden furniture was just a bench in a border not like on the website with nice cushions and table .

We had a fabulous time at Hollyhocks. It was so quiet and peaceful. Very comfortable and cosy cottage. Spotlessly clean. Would definitely recommend it. Our 2 dogs loved it also. Safe enclosed garden that we could let them out into and not have to worry. Thank you for a lovely week away.

I stayed here midweek with my two dogs and had a lovely, peaceful break. The kitchen is well-stocked and the rooms are clean. The bed was very comfy too. The garden is a decent size and fenced all the way round. It allowed me to play in the garden with my two greyhounds, without fear that they could accidentally get out and run off. The locationRead more is good - about a 20 minute walk to the sea to the east. Bawdsey Quay is about a two mile journey to the south. There's a cafe there but I believe its only open Fri - Sun. I'd definitely recommend this cottage to anyone that wants a peaceful break near to the coast. I got chatting to a few of the locals whilst on walks, during my stay. Everyone was very friendly. The Swan Inn down the road is a lovely pub. Decent prices but don't serve food. I think they do a quiz night every Wednesday. Hide
