This is a beautifully restored, luxury one-bedroomed cottage, perfect for romantic breaks away from the crowds, close to the River Stour on the Shotley Peninsula, and it’s dog-friendly too! This is part of the Suffolk Coast and Heaths Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, so head out in any direction on foot, bike or car and explore the glorious countryside. Enjoy the gentle 1.5-mile walk to the pretty village of Harkstead, where the local pub serves food and boasts an open log fire for when the weather gets chilly. Within a 5-mile radius of the cottage you can reach some great places to explore. Shotley Gate at the very tip of the peninsula has commanding views across the Stour Estuary to the international Port of Felixstowe and Harwich. Here you can visit the Shotley Marina and the Shotley Museum, which tells the story of Shotley and the old naval base, HMS Ganges, or pop in to one of the great local pubs overlooking the water before visiting the local shops to stock up on essentials. If you’re feeling like a bit of adventure, 4-miles up the road in the other direction is Alton Water where you can hire sailing boats or windsurfing equipment and explore the largest area of inland water in Suffolk. A 4-mile walk north will take you to The National Trust’s Pin Mill on the River Orwell, and the Woolverstone Marina. Kick off your walking boots at the village pub, enjoy a meal and a drink, and watch the red-sailed Thames barges heading up the river towards Ipswich. For all your food shopping needs, head up to the award-winning Suffolk Food Hall underneath the Orwell Bridge at Wherstead where you will find everything you would expect from an internationally recognised farm shop, and more – a must-visit place for all food-lovers.
The cottage is timber-beamed throughout, and full of beautiful period features. Step into the cosy lounge / diner where you can relax on the comfy sofa beside the old brick bakery ovens, put your feet up on the generous footstool, and watch a film on the wall-mounted wide-screen TV, listen to music on the digital Hi-Fi, or simply get back into your favourite book. There is a small dining table and chairs to enjoy your meals, or, in the mornings, sit on the stools at the breakfast bar in the country-style kitchen while you plan the day ahead over eggs from the free-range chickens that roam next door. Head up the cottage style staircase to the intimate bedroom suite and discover the far-reaching views over the countryside to the River Stour beyond. Here there is a luxurious king-size bed and an en-suite bathroom with free-standing bath in which to soak away the day’s exertions.
Outside, the cottage has its own large private garden, mostly laid to lawn but with a patio area complete with garden furniture.
