"The Old Bakery is a lovely, well-equipped cottage with everything you would need or expect. It is spotlessly clean but what makes it extra special is the warm welcome we received from the owners. They couldn't have been more helpful and had thought of everything - there was even a cake waiting for us! We would recommend to anyone who is looking for a quiet, relaxing break within easy reach of both the North Norfolk coast and the Broads to book this cottage straightaway!" - Elen Oakenfull
This romantic hideaway for two is situated on the southern edge of the Broads National Park in a glorious country landscape – and within half a mile of a good pub. The Broads are Britain’s largest protected wetland and a unique area to explore by boat, canoe, kayak or on foot, with more than 125 miles of waterways and nature trails to discover. Head out with a picnic and let nature restore and revitalise you. This part of the county is also perfect for birdwatching and cycling, while if you venture to the east coast, the beaches are long stretches of sand that are often quiet, even in summer. Winterton-on-Sea (7 miles), for example, has a stunning, unspoilt beach, while at Horsey Gap (11 miles) you can view the local grey seal colony in winter. Vintage car enthusiasts won’t want to miss the Caister Castle Car Collection, 2.5 miles away, while Caister itself is only 3 miles and Great Yarmouth 6.5 miles.
A traditional brick building all on one level, the cottage is full of light, with plenty of space in which to relax, and has been thoughtfully decorated for comfort and convenience. At one end of the open-plan lounge/diner is a sofa, an armchair and the TV, while at the other is a dining table for two. The pretty kitchen has ample space in which to prepare delicious meals, snacks and picnics, and the charming king-size bedroom is made all the more comfortable by its traditional-style metal bed with wool-filled pillows and duvets (you may just have the best sleep of your life). Last but not least, the en-suite shower room has a huge walk-in shower with both overhead and hand-held showers.
Outside the cottage is a flower-filled courtyard with a bistro dining set and a ceramic-oven charcoal BBQ – a sunny spot in which to grill some supper or simply sit and enjoy the huge skies and fresh air of this lovely part of Norfolk.
