Property code: OC-ROOST

This stunning bolthole for two, in the heart of the North Devon countryside, is the ideal place to switch off and relax. Just 1 mile away is the quaint village of Lee Bay, where you’ll find old stone cottages, as well as a welcoming village pub serving local ale and Devon cider. Lee Bay Beach is a craggy cove set within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Share a picnic on the sand, before heading out along the South West Coast Path to explore the dramatic coastline or following one of the many woodland trails that branch away from the village. Slightly further along the coast (3 miles), you’ll reach the Victorian resort of Ilfracombe. Wander around the harbour to admire Damien Hirst’s iconic Verity statue, peruse the many boutiques and galleries, or perhaps hop on the MS Oldenburg to spend the day on the remote island of Lundy.

Wide, gravel steps lead you through the trees and to the wooden staircase that takes you to the front door of this beautiful forest retreat. The property has been stylishly decorated in subtle tones and beautiful wood panelling adds a slightly rustic feel. The open-plan lounge/kitchen/diner/bedroom is bright and airy and triple-aspect windows look out onto open countryside. Enjoy a dinner for two at the sweet dining table, before sinking into the reclining sofa, lighting the wood burner, and watching a classic film on the TV/DVD. Tucked away, to the rear of the property, is an elegant king-size bed/sleeping area and en-suite shower room.

A stunning, south-facing covered veranda provides the perfect spot for post-dinner drink as the sun sets over the trees. There is also a lower decked area, with a chimenea and hot tub to make the most of.

Very cosy studio well thought out and equipped. Great coastal walking right from the door, although the walk back from the beach is strenuous! Enjoyed using the hot tub under the stars.

We loved our week away at the roost. made us feel welcome and was available on site if you needed help. The roost was clean, cosy, comfortable and so peaceful in an idyllic position. It reminded me of a tree house set in Africa. Whilst we didn't have giraffes to feed from our novel height we did see plenty of birdlife including a tawny owl which apRead morepeared each night as the bats left the roost (which Paul built). The hot tub was lovely at the end of each day. Lee bay is lovely, hidden away. We would definitely recommend The Roost as long as your mobility isn't impaired as parking is away from the house up 20 steps. You can drop off luggage via a side gate on the road but you can't park there. Over all our holiday was very enjoyable, peaceful, comfortable and I would return at the drop of a hat. Hide

The Roost is a little gem and ideal for a couple wanting a bit of peace and quiet in a rural setting. The property is on one floor, open plan and well laid out. There's a lovely veranda to sit out on with the added bonus of a hot tub which we really enjoyed. There's a great pub (The Grampus) in the village of Lee which is a 15 minute walk away downRead more the lane and the beach a further 5 minutes further on. I would definitely stay here again. Hide

Its a fantastic peaceful location where you can unwind and enjoy the view A word of warning to dog owners the gate to main road is not gated sufficiently to stop your dogs. It is easily remedied by blocking off the route by the side of the house, but it would be good if there was a permanent gate

Secluded property which lived up to how it had been described on the web site. Enjoyed it so much we booked for 2024 whilst still there. The hot tub made it, particularly because the weather was not good.
