You’ll fall in love with the location of this beautiful holiday bolthole – pretty Newberry Beach is just over 300 metres away while, on the doorstep, the village of Combe Martin is surrounded by glorious countryside, sea cliffs and is in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. There’s a good choice of pubs, restaurants and tea rooms here; work up an appetite with a walk along the South West Coast Path or take a ride on the famous water-powered cliff railway that links the twin villages of Lynton and Lynmouth, less than 13 miles away. Six miles to the east, Ilfracombe is the place to head for cultural and culinary experiences – highlights include the unusual conical design of the Landmark Theatre and, overlooking the harbour, Damien Hirst’s statue of Verity. Take a boat trip from here to Lundy and you might see dolphins and puffins too.
This idyllic couple’s hideaway is one of three properties – which includes the owner’s historic cottage – set within 4.5 acres of stunning meadow and woodland overlooking Combe Martin Bay. Small but perfectly formed, the stone-built cottage makes full use of every available space with a vaulted ceiling and exposed beams setting the scene for romance. Tastefully furnished and with an emphasis on simple pleasures, life here revolves around a welcoming double bedroom and stylish en-suite shower room. Next door is a cute open-plan lounge/kitchen/diner where you can curl up in front of the TV or enjoy a cosy dinner for two.
In good weather, you’ll likely want to step out onto the small patio area where stone walls, decking and a bistro-style dining set offer privacy. There are soothing views of the meadow overlooking the bay – you couldn’t get any closer without getting your toes wet!
