Holidays in Worcestershire
Worcestershire holidays are certain to delight all who embark on them. You will find a wealth of beautiful green countryside as well as picturesque towns and villages dotted throughout the county. The Malvern Hills are perhaps the most spectacular sight in the county and are well worth a visit during a Worcestershire holiday. Often described as a miniature mountain range the hills have some of the oldest rock formations in Britain. A climb to the summit at Worcestershire Beacon offers far reaching views of the beautiful countryside below from your elevated position 425 metres above sea level. The hills are also a popular spot for walkers and dogs and offer a host of other activities including hand gliding, mountain biking and horse riding, all excellent activities to experience during a romantic holiday in Worcestershire or on a family break.
The closest town to the hills is Malvern and its streets are full of historic buildings that are brimming with character. You could spend an afternoon admiring the wonderful architecture on these buildings before settling down with a cup of tea with your loved one in one of the many cute and quirky tea rooms that can be found in the town.
Worcester itself is equally as historic with Worcester Cathedral being the grandest building in the city. A superb example of ancient architecture, Worcester Cathedral is at the heart of the city, close to plenty of shops and restaurants, perfect for completing a day out during a cottage holiday in Worcestershire. There are also a number of parks and gardens in and around Worcester that offer a tranquil way to spend a day, such as Gheluvet Park and Croome Park.
Stourport-on-Severn features one of the most beautiful waterways in the whole of the UK. The town was built 250 years ago around the canal that flows through Stourport-on-Seven and owes much of its growth to the waterway. Today you can take a gentle stroll along the waterside stopping off in one of the cafés or restaurants along the way to recharge your batteries. The centre of the town has the feel of a British seaside destination despite being inland particularly around the harbour where you’ll find amusement arcades, cafés, and shops surrounding it.
